'Home Baby Monitors' May Do More Harm To Children; Monitors Linked To Smartphones Potentially Harmful?

"Home baby monitors" are usually used in households these times. These monitors are even getting more hi-tech. However, pediatricians say that these baby monitors may do more harm than good to babies.

According to a report, several "home baby monitors" now are set to detect pulse rates and it also can indicate the infant's level of oxygen. However, there is no proof yet of the effectiveness of this new device.

It is reported that there are more parents now asking about these new "home baby monitors." Pediatricians are mostly concerned about the safety of the device rather than its effectiveness. However, if the device is found to be effective, it also cannot guarantee in preventing an infant from the sudden infant death syndrome.

These "home baby monitors" are said to be new ones and notifies parents through smartphones about any event that can happen to the infant. Dr. Christopher Bonafide who works at the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia shares that infant may be potentially harmed by the alarm from these devices.

The same report indicates that these "home baby monitors" have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. There are also false alarms that are sent out by the device that may not be beneficial to the babies.

Meanwhile, there are many of these "home baby monitors" that are coming out. There is no specific evidence yet of the effectiveness of these baby monitors towards parents and infants. As these products come out in the market, it usually is shown that parents are to experience peace of mind once these monitors are attached to the babies.

The American Academy of Pediatrics warns parents to not use the home baby monitors that are linked to smartphone apps since there is no evidence yet that his may prevent SIDS. Parents are advised to look into actions that may prevent the child from danger like breastfeeding and sleeping in the same room with the babies.
