Microsoft's hottest flagship product Surface Pro 5 is causing a stir in the tech community for boasting high-specification hardware and impressive design. Rumors surrounding the Surface Pro 5 reveal Microsoft's no-compromise approach in terms of hardware design.

The main selling point of the Surface Pro 5 ultraportable tablet is Intel's latest microprocessor architecture, the Kaby Lake Core i7. The Pro 5 is expected to match its predecessor's 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. The Kaby Lake lineup of CPU is equipped with an unlocked multiplier and is designed to overlock past the pre-allocated turbo speed.

The Surface Pro 5 will also feature the latest USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, an improved rechargeable Surface Pen, and support for 4K display. The product's improved performance could pose a threat to Apple's MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro.

Microsoft will sell the Surface Pro 5 in two variants including the higher variant with a 4K display and the standard 2K display for entry-level variants. Rechargeable alkaline AAAA batteries will provide extended power for the Surface Pen.

The Surface Pro is developed by Microsoft as a flagship product that occupies the space between full-blown laptops and tablets. The company aims to tap this growth market in portable hardware.

According to research firm IDC, the tablet market continues to enjoy a sustained momentum due to the increasing penetration of detachables. The Surface Pro 5 is one of the emerging technologies that fit the mobile strategies of enterprises. This has benefited detachable which is gaining traction from boosting demand for premium devices.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is Windows 10 Redstone 2 OS ready. It is rumored to have a screen-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Pro 5 will compete head on with the new Apple iPad Air. It will be launched at the Microsoft Build 2017 Developer Conference to be held in Seattle, Washington next May.
