Famous Music Icon 'Jimi Hendrix' who is known for his many songs, including 'The Wind Cries Mary' and 'The Purple Haze', but now he will also be remembered for an entirely different reason, as Botanist has named a newly discovered species of a rare flower after him. The plant, named "Dudley Hendrix", is found only in a silver of Baja California, Colonel Mexico, in an area call Colonel Peninsula also known as Punta Colonet in Spanish.

Dudleya Hendrixii is a thin and stalky plant and grows about 1 foot tall. The plant has lush leaves and flowers that are bright pink and white in colour. It dies in the summer and then re-sprout again in the fall. Mark Dodero discovered the plant while in graduate school at San Diego State University.

Mark Dodero now works as a senior biologist at San Diego environmental consulting firm. San Diego State University says a graduate student, Mark Dodero, discovered the plant - supposedly while listening to Jimi Hendrix's song "Voodoo Child". The university says Marl Dodero and Stephen McCabe of the University of California, Santa Cruz, decided to name it after the late rock guitarist.

Though it has only been identified and named. Dudleya Hendrixii is already in peril. Its habitat, only a couple of acres, is endangered by grazing, farming, the housing development in the region and off-road vehicle traffic. To protect the newfound species, researchers are urging Mexicans officials and conservation groups to protect Hendrixii.

Dudleya Hendrixii is not only species that is named after music. For instance, the damselfly Umma Gumma is named after 1969's double album "Ummagumma" of Pink Floyd. And also, the tarantula Aphonopelma Johnny Cash is named for singer and songwriter Johnny Cash, as the spiders dark colouring reminded researchers of Cash's head-to-toe black attire.
