Android 7.0 Nougat was recently made available to Sony Xperia smartphones. The Xperia X Performance and the Xperia XZ have already gotten their Nougat updates and Sony is looking to have it available for a majority of its Xperia line of phones by the end of 2016. Other phones expected to receive the update are the Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, and Xperia X Compact.

Android 7.0 Nougat. Android 7.0 was officially released by Google last August 22. The first OEM to develop its own final form version was LG, who unleashed its Nougat-based LG UX OS during the debut of the LG V20 last September.

Android Nougat 7.0 adds a wide array of new features, including a new notification system. The update mainly focuses on a refinement and expansions of the already great features from the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Apart from the new notification system, a new feature of the Android Nougat 7.0 is the split-screen mode which works in both portrait and landscape modes. The split-screen mode is activated by long-pressing the recent apps button while using an app.

Another new feature is the quick switching which is basically just shuffling between the two most recently used apps. For example, you can be composing an email at the top window while switching between two social media apps on the bottom.

The Android 7.0 Nougat is loaded on both the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL. It is available to download for other Google-made devices such as the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5x, Nexus 9, Nexus 6, and Google Pixel C. The Nexus 5 will not be getting an Android Nougat upgrade.

Android 7.1 was released in October and Android 7.1.1 was made available to Google decided on December 5. Android O, the 15th Android OS, is now in the works for 2017.

Xperia Firmware Details. The firmware has a 1 GB data size. Given its large file size, Xperia users should definitely ensure to power up their smartphones and connect to a stable Wi-Fi connection.
