The British writer JK Rowling, who became famous as the author of the Harry Potter franchise, which attracted millions of readers and created legions of dedicated fans, is one of the most famous popular culture figures of our time.

Rupert Murdoch, Australian businessman and media mogul, who is the founder, CEO and chairman of the world's second-largest media conglomerate, is also another famous figure of our time. When Murdoch posted a tweet about the Charlie Hebdo attack, which Rowling found offensive to Muslims, the 49-year-old writer did not wait too long to show her discontent on social media, before the eyes of the millions.

In the tweet that earned Rowling's ire, Murdoc said, "Maybe most Moslems peaceful, but until they recognise and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible." The tweet attracted much criticism on Twitter, and Rowling was among the critics, The Guardian reported.

"I was born Christian. If that makes Rupert Murdoch my responsibility, I'll auto-excommunicate," she said

But Murdoch was not done with his inflammatory statements, he continued with another tweet saying, "Big jihadist danger looming everywhere from Philippines to Africa to Europe to US. Political correctness makes for denial and hypocrisy."

Rowling, as a response, decided to use the power of sarcasm and mocking. She said, "The Spanish Inquisition was my fault, as is all Christian fundamentalist violence. Oh, and Jim Bakker"

The British author did not just mock Murdoch, but she also condemned his tweet. Citing a recent study, Rowling said that eight times as many Muslims as non-Muslims had died in terrorist attacks, proof that ordinary Muslims are usually the victims of terror.

In her later tweets, she praised Lassana Bathily, a Muslim employee of the Kosher store that was the sight of a shootout during the Paris terror attacks. Bathily hid and saved Jewish customers from the attacker.
