Research: Facebook Most Popular Social Network in US, Followed by LinkedIn and Pinterest

Facebook is the most popular social network in the United States, according to a new report. 58 percent of the entire adult population have an account on Facebook, the study said.

Pew Research Center added that three-quarters of online adults (81 percent of all Americans) used Facebook.

The data collected from 1,597 Internet users suggested that Facebook was being used by 71 percent, being followed by LinkedIn and Pinterest, which was used by nearly 28 percent of online population. 23 percent of online adults used Twitter.

The research added that 45 percent of users made multiple appearances on Facebook, compared with 36 percent on Twitter. Daily engagement on LinkedIn was found to be 13 percent. 70 percent of the users visited Facebook daily.

While the overall growth remained flat compared to previous year, an increase in Senior population on Facebook was observed. "For the first time in Pew Research findings, more than half (56 percent) of Internet users age 65 and old use Facebook," the research noted.

Instagram was found to be the top network for teens.

Facebook also has its own Audience Insights and the results and the demographic usage in United States is:

- 18 to 24 years old-40 to 45 million active monthly users

- 25 to 34 years old-45 to 50 million active monthly users

- 35 to 54 years old-60 to 70 million active monthly users

- 55 to 65 years old-20 to 25 million active monthly users
