As Kirkman comes closer to the people responsible for blowing up the Capitol Hill, Maggie and Chuck are desperately trying to investigate the "what's next" question. With little people to trust, Kirkman enlists the help of Emily who investigates the person responsible for withdrawing information from the Secretary of Defense, which she, later on, learned that Aaron was responsible for.

Maggie and Chuck try to locate the person who has been giving her tips in the investigation. She found out that it was Charles Langdon, and as they were talking, someone tried to kill them both. She successfully gunned down the unidentified person and was able to recover a card that leads to a hotel room just across the location where MacLeish will be sworn in. Meanwhile, before the proclamation ceremony, MacLeish was getting cold feet. His wife reassures him that it is normal and that they all have worked for years to get him there and was chosen by their "friends."

The "Designated Survivor" episode "The Oath" ended with shots fired. As Maggie spotted the sniper that is sneaking through a window across the building where Kirkman was, she fired at the windowsill alerting everyone in the CIA. Then, the sniper fired back.
