‘Overwatch' Christmas Update ‘Winter Wonderland’ Goes Live; New Maps, Skins, And More Revealed

Blizzard Entertainment just released the latest patch for “Overwatch”. The December update, which fans have waited earnestly for, revealed a lot of new things to explore in the game. As the update just went live, new skins, maps, and more has been discovered.

Just Dec. 13, Blizzard Entertainment revealed their “Winter Wonderland” event patch. The said holiday event will be available only for a limited time from Dec. 13 to Jan. 2. The update included loot boxes, which they referred to as Winter Loot Boxes, that has all sorts of holiday surprises for players.

The Winter Loot Boxes can be earned or simply purchased and each will contain a least one item from Blizzard Entertainment’s 2016 Winter Wonderland collection for “Overwatch”. The said collection comprise of profile icons, sprays, victory poses, emotes, highlight introductions, skins, and many more all wrapped up in the yuletide holidays theme. Blizzard has clarified that though the event is limited, the item obtained by players will be permanently in their possession and can be used anytime.

Every characters have their own version of the Christmas-themed costumes. It ranges from the classic red-and-white outfits inspired from Santa Claus as well as from his trusty elves to ones garbed in fancy sparkling frosty ice. A few of the notable costumes would be from Zenyatta and Winston, who donned costumes inspired from the nutcracker prince and abominable snowman, respectively. Though the maps have not changed, they are now clothed in white for the winter holidays with all the snow lying around.

Aside from the holiday exteriors, Blizzard Entertainment has introduced a new playing mode especially for the “Winter Wonderland” event. The new playable mode called “Mei’s Snowball Offensive” is a player versus player mode catering up to six players on each side. It will be a simple snowball fight featuring Mei and all players have to do is to knock out their opponents with Mei’s modified blaster.
