With so many games released this year, most of them are targeting home consoles such as Playstation 4 and XBox One. While there are games that have been released for the Nintendo 3DS and the Playstation Vita, what is exactly the state of these two handhelds this year?

According to Kotaku, the 3DS and the PSVita didn't change much this year. A lot of video games have been released this year for the home consoles. Despite this, both the 3DS and the PSVita have their shares of games released in them. Some of these titles are well-known and are much-anticipated by players ever since the announcement of its releases like Pokemon Sun and Moon. Other games are not that fortunate to share the spotlight to appeal to gamers all over the world to buy their game. So what exactly is the state of the two handheld consoles?

Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo 3DS is still going strong. A lot of games have been released this year for the 3DS. Pokemon Sun and Moon is one of the successful titles for the 3DS this year. Other popular games series such as Fire Emblem Fates, Bravely Second: End Layer, Hyrule Warriors, and Monster Hunter Generations are some of the popular 3DS titles to have hit the console this year.

Despite Nintendo's focus on their upcoming console, Nintendo Switch, they are still opting to release games for the 3DS next year. In fact, they have a program right now for those who can help them reveal all the exploitable features for the 3DS. This program aims to reduce the use of hacking and cheating devices that bypasses Nintendo's security measures. People who can report problems with the 3DS may get a reward from Nintendo, ranging from $100 to $20,000, depending on how severe is the problem and how it impacts the company's security measures.

Playstation Vita. Unfortunately, not much Western games have been released for the PSVita this year. Most of the games released for the Vita this year are leaning towards the indie and the Japanese games. The notable games that were released this year for the Vita are Trails of Cold Steel II, Dragon Quest Builders, Zero Time Dilemma, and World of Final Fantasy.

It is clear that Sony focused more on the Playstation 4 than the Playstation Vita, seeing that they've announced several titles that are scheduled for release for the PS4. Because of Sony's move, many fans think that the Vita is dead. Despite lacking triple-A game titles for the Vita, there are a lot of indie games released for the console.  Developers and publishers have already announced that they'll be releasing games for the Vita next year.
