Apple is currently working on its next generation iMac. It was in October last year that Apple refreshed its iMac lineup. AMD graphics and Skylake chips were introduced for the 5K retina 27-inch models. It is speculated that Apple's iMac OS might feature AMD ZEN processor.

Latest iMac might Be Released in Next Apple Event

The new iMac will be powered by kaby lake processor, Jobs&Hire reports. If talking about the specific model that will show in the upcoming iMac than it would be Kaby Lake's i7-7700 processor. The chips of this Kaby lake processor are yet not ready.

AMD Has Won A Contract With Apple

MacRumors reports that because of AMD's contract with Apple there is a possibility that AMD will supply a discrete graphics chips for future Retina MacBook Pros and high end 27 inch iMac. The performance of the new graphics chips is measured on per watts basis and their capacity is said to be double of their predecessors. Future iMacs are expected to use AMD graphics cards as well.

As per records, the discrete graphic cards are available in 27 inch iMac model. Hence the information applies to such models. For other models like the 21.5 inch iMac Intel provides the integrated graphics.

The Upcoming iMac Was Not Included in the Recent Apple Event

A possible reason behind this was the unavailability of Kaby Lake chips. The upcoming iMac is said to be compatible with virtual reality. It may also have a powerful GPU which will provide better and more realistic experience.

It is also speculated that the next generation iMac will provide a full flash storage and it will come in a slimmer design. Overall it would be lighter than the previously released versions.

The highly anticipated iMac is due for next Apple event in 2017 and Apple may also release the new iPad Pro 2.
