Good news and even a worse news for fans of HBO's acclaimed series The Leftovers. HBO finally gave the show's return date on TV but the acclaimed series will also have its final bow in its next season. The Leftovers will take over the time slot of HBO hit Game of Thrones.

The Leftovers executive producers Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta confirmed the news on Facebook that their show will return on April with eight episodes on its third and sadly, final season.

The Leftovers Seasons 3 will feature series regular Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Margaret Qualley, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka,  Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler and Janel Moloney. The entire Murphy clan consisting of Regina King, Kevin Carroll, Jovan Adepo and Jasmin Savoy-Brown will also return.

Before the series ends, recurring actor Scott Glenn, who plays Theoroux's father Kevin Garvey, is promoted to series regular. At least there's a silver lining for him. It's much less of a blockbuster anchor for the network's schedule but it is still an acclaimed series.

Lindelof teased that the series' final eight episodes may not feel like The Leftovers to which fans are used to. Besides the new Down Under setup, it is also, obviously, ending, and that's infusing it with a certain degree of energy that's different, perhaps, than the previous seasons.

HBO has several other new shows debuting next year too with some of them are quite intriguing. For one, a drama about the rise of the porn industry from David Simon who is known for The Wire.

Another one is a limited series starring Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. A comedy anthology series from the Duplass brothers Is also on its way. If none of these gain the ratings HBO wants, they can still continue on the narrative heft of The Leftovers as viewers await the return of Thrones. But after The Leftovers ends, the network will have another huge hole to fill, and sadly, even if most people don't realize there was once something there.
