'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 News, Updates & Spoilers - Nina Dobrev's Return, Closure for Elena and Damon

Ever since the announcement that 'The Vampire Diaries' 8th season will be the show's last, fans have been in panic mode figuring out whether Damon and Elena will ever get closure. It seems like fans may be able to get what they want - finally.

Since showrunner Julie Plec announced that 'The Vampire Diaries' will not be returning for season 9, fans have been both sad and relieved by the news. Sad that their favorite TV show is ending, yet relieved as it has apparently run its course.

At least, that's what some of Nina Dobrev's fans are claiming. Ever since Elena was placed into a sleeping spell back in season 6, fans have always been hopeful that she will make a comeback someday to get a happy ending with Damon.

While it is highly possible that the couple might not be able to get a happy ending, fans are at least hoping for some closure. According to recent reports, Nina Dobrev was spotted back in 'The Vampire Diaries' set.

Rumor has it that the actress was back there to film "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, Episode 12. It appears that Dobrev agreed to go back and film the series to provide fans with the closure they've always wanted.

Fans might recall that showrunner Julie Plec has been wanting to get Dobrev's character back on the show since its 7th season but weren't able to do so due to Dobrev's constant refusal.

On the other hand, Entertainment Weekly also reported that the Katherine character (another one of Dobrev's) could also be getting some closure. Plec says in a recent interview "I will confirm nothing, but the visual similarities are not accidental."

Plec is referring to Georgie's death on a recent Vampire Diaries episode which was eerily similar to Katherine's. This gave fans a lot of hope for Dobrev's return.

Plec also added "The big question of the season is: How do our characters fit in this world? Are they all doomed? Is there a chance for redemption?"

She says, "Can you earn your way back out of a one-way ticket to Hell? And even characters that have been heroes, are they already marked? If so, what the hell are they going to do about it?"
