The Game Awards is one of the biggest events in gaming, rivaled only by E3. It manages to concentrate the attention of all gamers, developers, and media, as they await the announcements of the best of the best, the crème de la crème of gaming. The wait is over and here are the results.

Polygon shares the first news form the gaming event of the year. The highest number of awards received from the ceremony goes to Blizzard for their game “Overwatch”. It has received the prestigious “Game of the Year” award and three more with it, which include the categories for “Best Game Direction”, “Best Multiplayer”, “Best Esports”. This is an impressive amount of awards received which proves the success of the newly released Blizzard game. Among other good news about it is that there will be a new character introduced to the game roster, but there is still to be expected an official reveal by Blizzard and their “Overwatch” development team.

Gematsu reports that surprisingly, there was no winner announced in the “Best Fan Creation” category. The nominees in it were “Brutal Doom 64” and “Endereal: The Shards of Order”. “Brutal Doom” is an extremely popular modification for the original “Doom” game. It offers higher resolution, updated graphics, functional cursor support and many more additions to the hit game which defined the shooter genre for over a decade after its release. “Endereal” is a modification for “The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim”. It gives players an experience in a universe that is not connected to the one in “Skyrim”. The modification offers its own storyline, quests and thousands of secrets to be discovered during the player’s ventures in “Endereal”.

Tursted Reviews reports that the competition in category “Most Anticipated Game” was not light too. There are some big franchise names. “Red Dead Redemption 2”, “Mass Effect: Andromeda”, “God of War”, but the one who got the prize is a title of the true legacy. That is Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”. This game is one of the few which do not need an introduction, since the series has been around since the early 90’s and the NES console. Being awarded in the “Most Anticipated Game” category proves that the franchise is still strong and alive, even though it has been more than twenty years since its inception.
