Classic video game titles such as Pacman and Galaga can now be played using Facebook's Messenger app. Users can also play against each other in different Facebook platforms.

Today, Facebook released a new feature in their Messenger app called Instant Games. The Instant Games is an HTML5 game library that lets users access different classic game titles in their Messenger apps. Classic games such as Pacman, Galaga, and Space Invaders can be found in the game library.

A game controller icon will pop out in Facebook's Messenger's main menu. When tapped, this will show the different game titles available in the Instant Games library. Instant Games is a cross-platform feature, meaning that users can play with each other in both the Facebook Web and the Facebook mobile.

According to Facebook's director of global games partnerships, Leo Olebe via the verge, Facebook is looking to include classic gaming titles with the recent ones to know if doing so works well. Olebe mentioned that only time will tell if they're successful with the move or not.

Earlier this year, Facebook secretly hid a basketball game in its Messenger. The basketball game allows users to compete with each other by flinging basketball balls onto the basket and earning the highest score in Messenger. The success from it may led the developers in Facebook to actually create the Instant Games for its users. The Instant Games differs from it because it is a cross-platform feature and features a variety of games users can choose from. The Instant Games feature is currently in closed beta. The seventeen games available in Instant Games are: Pac-Man, Galaga, Arkanoid, Space Invaders, Track & Field 100M, Shuffle Cats Mini, Words with Friends, Hex, Everwing, Endless Lake, Templar 2048, The Tribez: Puzzle Rush, 2020 Connect, Puzzle Bobble, Zookeeper, Brick Pop and Wordalot Express.
