CW is setting the stage for a new teen thriller "Riverdale" which is a darker version of "Archie Comics" produced by Greg Berlanti. With the upcoming season finale of "Pretty Little Liars" and "Vampire Diaries," it is about time that CW produced another teen series.

"Riverdale" shifted its genre from comedy to suspense, thriller, and supernatural, bordering to "Teen Wolf" type of series. Morning News USA spotted a spoiler in the "Riverdale" teaser of the TV series which gained a lot of attraction online from the shirtless scene of Archie, along with dark nature of the "Archie Comics" showing a chunk of the main plot. The report mentions that while "Riverdale" is a darker version of "Archie", that fans really love, it will still have the iconic Betty-Archie-Veronica love triangle.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, "Riverdale" executive producer at the San Diego Comic-Con, CW's new TV series is still "Archie" but with a darker, eerie, and "more complex" than the comics. He describes "Riverdale" as '"Archie" meets "Twin Peaks."' Some fans, however, are disappointed with the supernatural nature of the plot, steering clear of the Archie-sque of the series. But the executive producer promised a "mix of the nostalgia" in "Riverdale" with a newer mystery element that fans will love.

Confirmed "Riverdale" series cast include JK Apa who will play the lead character, Archie Andrews, Cole Sprouse will play as his best friend Jughead Jones, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Marisol Nichols as the Hermione Lodge, Madelaine Petsch will play Cheryl Blossom, Luke Perry will play Fred Andrews, Ross Butler as the scheming Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott will play Kevin Keller, and Madchen Amick as Alice Cooper.

The first episode will be entitled "Chapter One: The River's Edge" which is a 45-minute episode airing on January 26, 2017, 9:00 P.M. on The CW.
