It has been a while since fans have seen the last of “Duke Nukem” and the hype has just gotten real when Gearbox has proclaimed that they will be making an announcement next week. Gearbox Software is one of the many developers of the “Duke Nukem” video game franchise. They acquired the rights to the video game series in 2010.

On Nov. 24, Randy Pitchford replied to a Twitter post made by one of the fans of the said video game franchise. The fan, named Alex Everatt, posted, “A Duke Nukem/Gears of War crossover would be pretty badass. Was the e-mail from the future?”

Pitchford replied, “On December 1st, we are announcing something you might really enjoy.” Randy Pitchford is one of the founders and currently the CEO of Gearbox Software. His reply to the said fan’s Twitter post has given hopes to fans, expecting the return of “Duke Nukem”.

Fans are already quickly speculating that the CEO might just be announcing a new “Duke Nukem” video game. The aforementioned software company has planned back in 2011 to reboot the “Duke Nukem” series. It planned to jumpstart the revamp with the release of the first game titled “Duke Begins”.

The development for the said planned video game traced back to 2007 and was even planned to release after the “Aliens: Colonial Marines” video game was out in 2013. Unfortunately, it did not push through and “Duke Begins” was canceled. But with Pitchford stating that there will be an important announcement next week, fans are hoping that it might actually be the “Duke Nukem” reboot everyone has been waiting for.

“Duke Nukem” is a video game series that was named after its main character, Duke Nukem. It was first released in 1991 as a PC game for MS-DOS. It debuted on video game consoles such as PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 64 when it released “Duke Nukem 3D” in 1997.
