Fans were left with an ultimate cliffhanger two years ago with the season finale of "Sherlock" Season 3 and the special episode left them wanting for more. To hype the fans more, PBS just dropped first-look photos of the series' fourth season.

PBS and Masterpiece teased fans when they announced the start of production on Season 4 of Sherlock. Martin Freeman's character John Watson is confirmed to have a baby in the season and producers said the child will have a role to play in the story.

The series will bring back Benedict Cumberbatch as the high-functioning sociopath Sherlock Holes together with Freeman as his sidekick. Season 4 will have a day-and-date debut in US and UK on the first day of 2017 with the episode called "The Six Thatchers."

The network said on their announcement of the shooting's start in April that just like the previous three seasons, Season 4 will have three new episodes. They promised these episodes would be filled with laughter, shocks, surprises, and far from ordinary cases.

Produced by Hartswood Films, Sherlock made a triumphant return to television this year, January 1, with a special 90-minute special episode "The Abominable Bride." The episode was released on theaters and got big box office receipts especially from China and South Korea.

The special episode also managed to garner nominations at the Emmy Awards, including a Best Actor nod for Cumberbatch. It is not really expected to win given that the category had a tough completion and yet, Sherlock pulled off an upset and won the Outstanding TV movie.

The photos dropped by PBS today shows Sherlock, Watson and his family, and Mycroft played by the show's writer Mark Gatiss. The photos also show the new villain Culverton Jones, which is played by Toby Jones, based on Sir Arthur Doyle's story "The Adventure of the Dying Detective."
