‘Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale’ Release Date, Latest News & Update: Movie Plot Is A Prequel To Season 3? Season 3 Is Will Be Confirmed?

Aniplex of America Inc. had announced that "Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale" animated film's US release that will premier in Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California on the first of March next year. The upcoming film will also be releasing simultaneously in other one thousand theatres worldwide on February 18 next year.

Tickets for the said event are now accessible for purchase on the official website since last Tuesday, November 15. ELEVEN ARTS will be responsible for the circulation of "Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale". It will be released in its original Japanese audio with English subtitles, according to Movie News Guide.

The plot of the film is based after the events of anime version of "Sword Art Online" season 2 as told by the "Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale" official website. According to the trailer a new device called the Augma is developed in 2026, but unlike the NerveGear and its successor Amusphere, it does not have a full dive function and instead uses the so-called Augmented Reality (AR).

Kirito and his friends will play "Ordinal Scale", a popular game developed exclusively for Augma. The catch of the game will be its "Ranking System" which identifies the players' rank with the help of ordinal numbers. As they play the game, they will soon realize that the game is not as safe and not as fun as they know.

The story was made by the original author of the series, Reki Kawahara, which takes place after the Mother's Rosario arc. The production team together with cast from the anime series will be having a reunion to work on the project. Among them are Tomohiko the director, Shingo Adachi for character design and the return of Yuki Kajiura to score the music.

"Sword Art Online" is a popular Japanese action-adventure anime series. Two seasons of the series have aired till now. Fans are now eagerly waiting for some scoop on the third installment. The franchise, however, has not yet revealed any significant information on Season 3 or confirmed its renewal. There are speculations that the showrunners may announce Season 3 during composer Yuki Kajiura's concert in Hollywood.

It was then reported that after Yuki Kajiura's concert featuring Sword Art Online songs, the producers are likely to confirm Season 3. Producer Shinichiro Kashiwada said in an interview that Season 3 will possibly feature characters from the Alicization arc. The previous two seasons never projected this angle. There are likely to be more elements from the original book, too, reports FX News Call.
