Marvel's 'Black Panther' News & Updates: Angela Bassett, 'American Horror Story' Actress Joins Cast

The cast is just getting better than ever. Angela Basset will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she was cast in Marvel Studio's Black Panther starring Chadwich Boseman as the titular character.

Marvel has just announced that the Oscar-nominated actress known for her films like "What's Love Got to Do with It", "Waiting to Exhale", and "How Stella Got Her Groove" back will join Michael B. Jordan and Forest Whitaker in the cast. She will play Ramonda, stepmother of T'Challa or more known as Black Panther.

In the comic series, T'Challa's stepmother Ramonda was thought to have run away from him but was later discovered that she had been kidnapped by evil forces. His actual mother died while giving birth to him.

Before the announcement, Bassett has been very busy with her career in television. She received Emmy nominations for her work in Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story". She also had her directorial debut with Lifetime's biopic of the late Whitney Houston called "Whitney" starring Yaya DaCosta.

Other actors joining the cast is Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, and Florence Kasumba. It will be directed by Ryan Coogler.

Coogler has already made a name in the film industry before directing a Marvel movie. His movies "Creed" and "Fruitville Station" got critical acclaim from critics and audiences. Both films star Jordan which marks their third collaboration.

Black Panther is not new to the eyes of avid Marvel fans when it comes to films. He had his debut at the summer blockbuster hit "Captain America: Civil War" starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. as their iconic roles Captain America and Iron Man, respectively.

The film is another introduction film of the members of The Avengers. The film is set to be released in February 2018.
