The gaming franchise "Tomb Raider" has received excellent reception from the fans and people love the character Lara Croft in it. The recent success of "Rise of the Tomb Raider" has made it as the most successful female game character in the video games. It is interesting to know that when the original game was developed it was decided to make a male character as the avatar.

During the early development of the original game, the Rise of the Tomb Raider character was designed and named as Fletcher Christian, a guy. Later, the team decided to redesign the character to a South American archaeologist named Laura Cruz, who is the fan of Neneh Cherry and Tank Girl character. But after plotting bulldogs with Union Jack in their mouths the designing team decided to make her of a British origin and renamed as Lara Croft.

Interestingly, there are other facts about the Rise of the Tomb Raider character and the franchise. Is there a real character plotted in the game franchise? Yes, in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, a character named Jean Yves, a French archaeologist, and friend for Lara had significant similarities with a French archaeologist with the same name. Hence, the later installments of Tomb Raider did not plot the character.

Also, the hair length of the Rise of the Tomb Raider character was short in the original game and she did not appear with a long braid. But, this could be due to the trend during that time and also due to the number of polygons appearing in the frame. Later, in Tomb Raider II, the iconic hairstyle made the appearance with the increase in the number of polygons and it continues even in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Over the years, the Rise of the Tomb Raider character has grown as an iconic video-game avatar. The increased success can be attributed to her appearance and the reputation as a female game character. The recent installment in the franchise, Rise of the Tomb Raider also well received by the fans and this time the developer made it available in the 4K format and introduced in PS4 Pro.
