‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ Update: Movie Hits $75 Million In US Debut

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" has reached the number one spot in the US box office on its debut for earning a scorching $75 million. The movie, which is a "Harry Potter" spinoff and also written by J.K. Rowling, also earned an A Grade on CinemaScore.

The movie, though it has already earned $75 million, still has the lowest number in the "Harry Potter" film series according to Entertainment Weekly. Starring Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight, and Ezra Miller, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" has additionally earned $143.3 million from foreign markets and has earned roughly $218.3 million for on its global debut.

On the other hand, the site also mentioned that Marvel Studios' "Doctor Strange" by Benedict Cumberbatch has marked its number two spot on the list for earning $17.7 million on its third weekend. The film was also said to have made $571 million around the world.

"Trolls" by Fox has earned the third spot, earning $17.5 million after its third weekend, fourth spot goes to the sci-fi movie "Arrival" starring Amy Adams for earning $11.8 million after getting a middling B grade on CInemaScore on the previous week. The fifth spot goes to the comedy- themed movie "Almost Christmas" starring Danny Glover and Gabrielle Union which has earned $7 million.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is set in New York, and tells a story of a fictional author which was mentioned in the "Harry Potter" series. Newt Scamander, as played by Eddie Redmayne, visits New York's secret community of witches and wizards, as described by BBC. The movie is set 70 years before Harry Potter reads his book at Hogwarts.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that the Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling has already planned scripts for a total of five films in the series.
