Doctor Strange Leading the Box Office with $43 Million Weekend, Trolls Came In Second

The films met a collective bump over the weekend due to the recently concluded US presidential election. Sci-fi flicks were said to perform really well according to a data released last Sunday. Doctor Strange came in first, Trolls followed, and the alien thriller movie Arrival came third.

Doctor Strange was surely able to work its charm among American moviegoers who are expectedly looking for an escape after the mind-blowing presidential campaign. The movie closed the week with $43 million sales, which made its total earning to $153 million.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars the film Doctor Strange, which is about a world-famous neurosurgeon named Stephen Strange, whose life accidentally changed after a car accident. Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Benedict Wong, and Tilda Swinton also star in the movie.

On the other hand, the film "Trolls" which is currently enjoying lots of admiration from kids was able to hold the second spot in the box office, earning $35 million. "Arrival" came on the third spot, which came with $24 million. The movie is about an elite team that is investigating an extraterrestrial spacecraft that came down on Earth. It focuses on a linguist (played by Amy Adams) who is recruited to communicate with aliens. "Arrival" is a breath of fresh air for Paramount, after battling with flops after flops like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Zoolander 2, and Ben-Hur.

Other movies that were able to make it to the top are "Almost Christmas" which earned a total of $15.6 million across 2, 376 locations. On the fifth spot is the Hacksaw Ridge, which earned $10.8 million and therefore closing the fifth spot.

Back to Doctor Strange, the movie has been getting loads of traction. In China, it earned a whopping $83.5 million just ten days after its release. Furthermore, Korea, United Kingdom, and Russia are among the other top markets.
