Third ‘Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress’ Anime DVD/BD Release Artwork Arrives

Aniplex Japan brought out the details for just the release of the spring 2016 anime series "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress," which had its first volume solicited for a June 22, 2016 release. With the series getting a bi-monthly release plan, and the third volume has just arrived and fans can have a look at the wraparound cover artwork for it.

These releases are priced at 14,040 yen for the Blu-ray and 11,880 yen for the DVD as the volume has four episodes and two discs. The series is is said to be interesting from a design perspective as it's reuniting some "Attack on Titan" colleagues with director Tetsuro Araki and writer Ichiro Okouchi. Okouchi is the main force behind the original "Code Geas"s story and most of its spinoffs as well as having done the first two Berserk features for their screenplays.

The cast includes Tasuku Hatanaka as Ikoma, Sayaka Senbongi as Mumei, Maaya Uchida as Ayame, Toshiki Masuda as Kurusu, Yuuki Kaji as Takumi, Kanae Oki as Kajika, Mariya Ise as Yukina, Ryota Ohsaka as Sukari, Kensuke Satou as Kibito and Mamoru Miyano as Biba. Plot concept: The series takes place on the island country Hinomoto, where humans hide themselves in fortresses called stations against the threat of zombie-like beings with steel hearts known as "Kabane." Only armored locomotives known as "Hayajiro" go between the stations.

The first Kabaneri compilation film, "Tsudou Hikari" (Gathering Light), premieres on December 31, with the second, "Moeru Inochi" (Burning Life), following on January 7. They will run for two weeks. The original anime did very well at the Newtype Anime Awards, netting Best Work (TV Broadcast), Best Soundtrack, Best Screenplay, and the Character Design Award, according to Anime News Network.
