On November 8, 2016, Bandai Namco Entertainment releases Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization for the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita. As a celebration of its launch, Bandai Namco launched a new trailer showing some of the game's gameplay and scenes.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization follows a brand new story that takes place three years after the original Sword Art Online events. The giant floating castle known as Aincrad has been renamed Ainground. Instead of multiple floors, Ainground is now one large ground where monster lurk and towns can be seen. The story follows the story of a new character name Premiere who accompanied Kirito in his travels.

The game's gameplay allows players to form a party of four to explore the grounds of Ainground. They could also recruit NPCs to their party to join their expeditions. There are also non-recruitable NPCs which act as a shopkeeper that helps the players in their quest. Returning characters such as Asuna, Silica and Lisbeth are available in the game and can be recruited to join the party. New characters such as Yuuki from Mother's Rosario joins the fray as well as a mysterious character.

A notable feat that makes Sword Art Online... well, Sword Art Online is its "death game." Much like the light novels and the anime, if a player dies, they can't be revived anymore. In Hollow Realization, NPCs who are killed in combat cannot respawn again. Because they can't be respawned again, players will no longer have the chance to meet them ever in the game.

Sword Art Online is a 2009 Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara. The light novel inspired an anime adaptation in 2012 and its second season in 2014. Four video games are based off from the series have been released on Playstation Portable, Playstation Vita and Playstation 4.
