'Stranger Things' Season 2 Cast: 5 New Characters For 'Bigger Mythology'

As "Stranger Things" returns for season 2 in 2017 in Netflix, its creator, the Duffer brothers, are adding five new characters, news said. Matt Duffer also said the titles for season 2 have changed to complement with the focus of the show, exploring "bigger mythology."

EW reported "Stranger Things" season 2 will cast Linnea Berthelsen, Sean Astin and Paul Reiser. Berthelsen is Danish who will play the character of Roman, a magnetic, yet emotionally damaged young woman who also suffered some loss during her childhood. While she does not reside in Hawkins, she is nevertheless connected with the supernatural occurrences at Hawkins' Department of Energy Laboratory in the previous season.

Astin, who has been part of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, will portray the character of Bob Newby, a former nerd who went to the same school with Hopper and Joyce. Newby, a kindhearted fella will manage the Hawkins RadioShack.

Reiser's character, meanwhile, is Dr. Owens who is connected with the Department of Energy. Owens is a high-ranking official assigned with a "cleanup" task, specifically, to contain previous incidents.

EW also reported that "Stranger Things" season 2 will be something like "a movie sequel" similar to "Aliens" and "Terminator." According to Duffer, they see James Cameron as an inspiration in making season 2.

Additional characters for "Stranger Things" season 2 according to Business Insider are Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery. These two actors will play as sister and brother in the upcoming season. Sink's character is Max, a tomboy who has her own share of complicated history plus some skepticism. Her older brother in the show, Billy, will have a "violent streak" personality.

"Stranger Things" season 1 finished with 95 percent approval rating according to Rotten Tomatoes, with its "exciting, heartbreaking and sometimes, scary" scenes. Netflix TV series "acts as an addictive homage to Spielberg films and vintage 1980s television.
