Microsoft's Xbox Live has been restored while Sony's PlayStation Network remains offline for second day after the services were compromised. A hacker group had claimed the responsibility for attacking the both gaming services.

Xbox Live and PlayStation Network users had experienced issues while connecting on Christmas Day - one of the busiest days for video game industry.

"Under Scheduled Maintenance. We should be back online shortly. Apologies for any inconvenience," read a message on PlayStation Network's website on Friday.

A Microsoft website that keeps track of the status of Xbox services listed Xbox Live's "core services" as up and running on Friday, Business Today reported.

A hacker group called "Lizard Squad" took credit for disrupting the both online gaming services via a tweet.

Lizard Squad appears unrelated to the hacker group "Guardians of Peace" who is responsible for Sony Pictures hack earlier this month, reportedly trying to stop the release of the film "The Interview."

The Interview was released online Wednesday on the Xbox network and other digital platforms. The movie also hit select US theaters on Thursday, Business Today noted.
