Korean eSports team, SK Telecom T1 has yet again conquered the 2016 Worlds championship for the third time in four years, this time, taking on against their fellow Korean team, Samsung White. The Korean team composed of Duke, Faker, Wolf, Bang, and Blank, floored Samsung White in a 5-game thriller match, ending the championship with a 3-2 win against Samsung White.

SKT T1 was off to a shaky start with the first two games, struggling to defend their base against Samsung White's aggression. SKT got the upper hand when Blank managed to kill Samsung White's Ambition in the jungle area. Samsung gained its confidence when SSG's Crown managed to do a solo kill on SKT's Faker with Viktor early game, shocking everyone in the audience and even Faker himself! But late in the match, SKT started to take control and turn the tides over. Three turrets down and an Infernal Drake buff contributed to SKT's confidence in taking over the play. Even more so when SKT Ambition managed to secure the Infernal Drake for the team despite SSG's attempt to claim it. It is when the first Baron Nashor goes down for SKT that the team started to dominate the playing field. SSG put up a good fight despite SKT's advantage with the Baron buff. However, when the second Baron goes down for SKT, SSG faces difficulty in taking down the enemy team. Even when the team managed to secure their Baron buff, it is not enough to stop SKT's onslaught to their Nexus, earning SKT's first win in the finals and possibly the record of the longest Game 1 in the tournament.

Game 2 has SKT painted all over it. Despite SSG securing first blood with Ambition's Kindred killed off SKT Beng's Lee Sin, it is not enough to reclaim the upper hand in the game. Again, SKT owned the 30-minute game and securing a win, making the score 2-0 in the finals.

Game 3 marked SSG's dominance both early and mid game, with Ruler's Ezreal as the main damaging output. They also managed to secure Aurelion Sol for their mid-laner, Crown, but he's not very good with it, earning the first blood to SKT, courtesy of Bang. However, SKT lost team fights near the Baron's pit with SSG, as Ruler dishes out massive damage, eliminating most of SKT members. SKT's all three inhibitors down, but SSG still lost to SKT in another clash. With the Elder Dargon buff stolen by Ambition and securing the Baron buff, they charged into SKT's base, earning their first win in the finals, and also the longest match in this year's tournament, with the 71-minute duration.

Game 4 goes again to SSG. SKT opted for their substitute, Duke, to replace Bengi for the Jungler role but proved to be ineffective as SSG's Top Laner, CuVee pawned Duke's Gnar, giving SSG the first blood advantage. No matter how SKT forces their way into the enemy base, SSG held out with control. CuVee provided more advantage for the team when he clutch-played Kennen, teleporting to a ward near a clash, earning a triple kill. The game ended for SKT as they go down to SSG, tying the series to 2-2.

Game 5 became the do-or-die game and marked SKT's 3rd win in the championship. A lot of misplays and trades happened, and despite SKT taking an early lead, SSG bounced back with some kills and took down the first turret of the game. More kill trades happened, and SKT took down the first Baron, sought and took down Crown with Enchanted Crystal Arrow before backpedaling for Elder Dragon. Unable to forge onto the base, even with the Elder Dragon buff, SKT settled for taking another Baron down, and that marked the end for SSG as the team relentlessly destroyed all four inhibitors before taking on another Elder Dragon buff to secure the win. The game ended with SKT winning for the third time in the Worlds Championship with a 3-2 standing against SSG.
