An octogenarian in Alabama suffering from terminal cancer has been cured miraculously, thanks in no small measure to his adopted stray.

According to Daily Mail, 84-year old Bill Hogencamp of Phenix, Albama was told in May this year he had incurable cancer of the liver, colon and the lining of abdomen. Having resigned to his fate, he decided he would just get done with the treatment regiment prescribed.

"I have seven children and I've traveled all around the world. I thought, if this is it, then this is it," he said according to ABC news.

What Hogencamp did not know was a miracle was in store.

On one of the days following cancer surgery, Hogencamp's wife Kathy was to pick him from rehabilitation center. On her way she noticed a stray walking dangerously close to speeding cars. As she and other cars slowed down the dog put approached the cars. As it reached Kathy's car it simply put its paws on the door. Enamored by the cute dog, she immediately let it in.

Hogencamp was however not happy that his wife had picked up a stray. The couple tried to locate the dog's owners but to no avail. They were then forced to keep the six-year old Maltese, which they named Mahjong after Kathy's favorite card game.

In no time, the dog and Hogencamp bonded. Mahjong would curl up with him at home and eagerly awaits his return from outside.

Following surgery, Hogencamp opted for chemotherapy. When doctors ran tests, they were surprised to find he was cancer free.

"My life has been a miracle. And now Mahjong is part of that miracle," he told ABC News.
