The risk is present for the infant's mental development if the mother is breastfeeding while smoking marijuana. However, medicated marijuana is a cure for anxiety in cases of pregnancy and other cases of mental disorders.

According to Live Science, there are limited researches on the effect of cannabis to a breastfeeding mother to her child. Even the American Academy of Paediatrics discourages the use as it may implicate and adverse effect on a child's mental development.

It is very common that any fat-soluble drugs can get into a mother's tissue and the transmission goes on throughout our body and can mix to the body fluids. Neonatologist Dr. David Mendez said that the Molecule of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, an active ingredient of marijuana could affect the brain development of a child.

Featured in Leaf Science, Dr. Raphael Mechoulam in his research said that the active compound of cocaine and morphine has been secluded but not for the case for marijuana. THC, maybe a neuron-protectant that can be considered as medicine but overdosing to it may lead to a crucial effect on brain progress.

It is also advice by American College of Obstetrics that smoking marijuana in the presence of infant still pose a danger as babies are vulnerable to the toxin and other chemicals. An infant's immune system as well is the process of increasing, and cannabis can isolate its development.

The implication of marijuana to a person mainly is the loss of memory. In fact, in a study shows that people who have been intoxicated with cannabis have less capacity to organize information.

This is what Drug-Free World is trying to implicate that if it happens to users, then it poses a higher risk to babies. There should be more sensible research of the chemicals found in marijuana and as to how it should be used.
