FOX series' "Wayward Pines" is in for an uncertain comeback. Yet, fans remain hopeful for the new show, since many online reports have given rise to speculations for a renewed development of a season 3.

When "Wayward Pines" season 2 capped off last July this year, ratings for the show had dipped to more than 30 percent, according to a Breathecast post. Although this was some awful news for the people behind the sci-fi mystery drama, many still extended their support for a season renewal in the future.

EP Blake Crouch had downplayed the rumors in a recent media statement to Entertainment Weekly, and announced that the new season would have new humans turning into Abbies. That is one huge possibility for a new theme for "Wayward Pines" season 3.

Will the Abbies replace the humans in season 3?

Looking back at "Wayward Pines" season 2 finale (where a newborn was shown to feature a humanoid rather than an Abbie face), this alone suggested of the survivors' success in keeping humanity alive, at least. Crouch stated that as the series is about the advancements in human evolution, and that as humans turned into Abbies - it is a continuous process.

And vice-versa, as the executive producer added that the Abbies would be evolving into something else as well. The surviving residents of "Wayward Pines" would also be new witnesses to the town's unique makeover.

Fox TV Group co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden is also optimistic, saying, "I definitely think there could be a season 3," at the TCA press tour held last August, in a Vine Report post. EP M. Night Shyamalan also announced that "Wayward Pines" would be a season trilogy.

Prepare for a lot of unexpected twists and turns in "Wayward Pines" season 3, coming back sometime in 2017. Stay tuned for the latest updates!
