Much to the surprise of the show's followers, History's hit TV series "Vikings" is set to return in two months' time, with the second half of Season 4 premiering on the 30th of November.

This is a departure from the previous seasons' structure. The last three seasons of the show clocked in at 10 episodes each, whilst Season 4 aims to extend its plot even longer by introducing an additional ten chapters.

The midseason return picks up after the events of Ragnar's (Travis Fimmel) encounter with his brother Rollo (Clive Standen). The battle resulted in a humiliating loss for Ragnar, prompting him to enter a life of exile. The midseason will also depict the new status quo, as evidenced by Bjorn's (Alexander Ludwig) stature as a leader, as well as Lagertha's (Katheryn Winnick) slow ascension to power.

History's newly released press release for the show also reads:

"In the midseason premiere, Ragnar's reappearance in Kattegat triggers a chain of events no one - except the Seer - could have ever imagined. He unexpectedly arrives home to see what has become of his sons and to handle unfinished business in Wessex with King Ecbert (Linus Roache). Meanwhile, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) plans a power play in Kattegat and Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) prepares to fulfill his long-held dream to explore the Mediterranean in a sleek new boat built for him by Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård)."

Series creator Michael Hirst also discussed a few details regarding Season 4's second half, commenting that this might be the biggest season yet for the show.

"We've propelled "Vikings" to the topmost level of historical drama as we follow storylines inspired by real life events such as Bjorn Ironside sailing through the Mediterranean and Ivar the Boneless becoming the most feared warrior of all time. It's not a story of one man, but a saga of Ragnar and his sons."

Since Season 4's debut, "Vikings" drew 4.3 million total viewers during its 10-week run, with 2.1 million viewers categorized under the 25-54 year-old bracket, and the other 2.2 million categorized under the 18 - 49 year-old demographic. As of writing, the show has entered filming phase for next spring's Season 5.

"Vikings" returns to History on November 30 @9pm ET/PT. Check the trailer for Season 4's second half below.
