After months filled with rumors surrounding Sony's PlayStation Neo project, the company revealed that they are renaming the said console unit - officially - as the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Announced during a special press conference event for the product, the PS4 Pro is an enhanced iteration of the PlayStation 4, having been attuned to fit in with 4K resolution, whilst sporting better graphics and a faster processor. In addition, Sony has clarified that the PS4 Pro will not be replacing the PS4, and that new games will be playable for both units.

The existence of the PlayStation Pro during its stages under the Neo pseudonym was first reported back in March.

Aside from its new features, the PS4 Pro will be supporting both 4K and HDR video, which will be powered by an upgraded graphical processor unit. Sony has also increased its clock rate, which has been mentioned to be double the power of the PS4, and will be coming in with a 1TB hard drive.

"PS4 Pro is not intended to blur the line between console generations," Mark Cerny, the chief architect for the PS4, said on stage. "Instead, the vision is to take the PS4 experience to extraordinary new levels."

To demonstrate the power of the new console, Cerny took it to the stage and showed scenes from a variety of games including "Watch Dogs 2," "Deus  Ex: Mankind Divided," "Spider-Man," and "Killing Floor 2" using a 4K-powered display. They also demonstrated the PS4 Pro\'s new HDR feature via a demo of \"Days Gone\" and \"Infamous: First Light." They also played a demo of the highly-anticipated \"Mass Effect: Andromeda," much to the amazement of the audience.

Cerny also adds that Sony is intent to improve the PlayStation VR experience through PS4 Pro. Furthermore, he commented that both Netflix and YouTube will be developing new apps for the said console.

No release date has been specified yet regarding the PS4 Pro, but predictions from various outlets point to a potential late 2016, or early 2017 release.
