Regarded as a staple of the NBA 2K series, MyCareer mode is a single-player story mode which allows the player to create a character and goad him through the entire NBA season.  However, the aforementioned mode will be given depth this time with the inclusion of an actual storyline. Moreso, Michael B. Jordan will be providing voice work and motion capture for Justice Young, one of the player character's teammates.

The game's senior producer Ben Bishop describes Justice as a young and budding athlete with "a bit of a chip on his shoulder, having been passed over and second-guessed for most of his basketball career." Jordan will be reuniting with "Creed" writer Aaron Covington, who will be developing the script for the storyline.

This isn't the first time 2K has attempted to place depth with its flagship game. Previously, the said outfit sought for director Spike Lee's aid in helming "NBA 2K16's" MyCareer mode, and succeeded by introducing an actual antagonist to the player's customized character. He also made it even more realistic by having actual NBA Players subjected to full body scan and motion capture for their models.

Interestingly, injecting a storyline to a sports game is slowly becoming a trend nowadays. "FIFA 17's" similarly conceived mode, "The Journey," immerses the player in a storyline filled with choices and different pathways - akin to the dynamics of a Mass Effect game.

Aside from "2K17," Jordan has played key roles in films such as "Chronicle," "Fantastic Four," "Fruitvale Station," and "Pastor Brown." He is also bound to portray the antagonist role in Marvel Studios' "Black Panther."

NBA 2K17 is expected to be released later this year.
