Weeks have passed since the supernatural horror show "Stranger Things" made a debut on the online streaming platform Netflix, and truth be told, it started an entirely new phenomenon in a span of hours. Which is why it is not a complete surprise when the Duffer Brothers have announced its renewal for a second season, set to premiere sometime in 2017.

The big reveal was made through Facebook via the show's official page, revealing a trailer which seemingly teased the titles of the show's upcoming slew of episodes.

Set in the 80s, Netflix' latest offering centers on the young protagonists' quest to search for a missing local boy. Matters are further complicated with the arrival of Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown), a mysterious girl with powers, and little did they know that there's more to life beyond the boy's disappearance.

Season 2 is expected to expand more on the story established in the show, with series co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer noting that it will take place in the fall of 1984, a year after the events of the first season.

The showrunners also spoke with EW and revealed more details regarding the upcoming season. They have mused that most of the cast, including Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), will return. However, when asked about Eleven's return, the Duffer Brothers shrugged and commented, "We leave that up in the air." However, they were eager to reveal that four characters will make a debut in Season 2. "There's going to be a lot and new interesting dynamics that we didn't see in Season 1," says Matt Duffer.

While fans were quick to notice aesthetic nods to Steven Spielberg and Stephen King's works, the Duffer Brothers shared to EW that a huge part of the next season will be paying homage to "Avatar" brainchild James Cameron. Matt further explained, "There's Temple of Doom, Aliens, Terminator 2. I guess a lot of this is James Cameron. But he's brilliant. And I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original. So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work."

They also revealed that Hawkins isn't the only setting for Season 2, sharing that the opening episode does not take place in the Indiana-set location. Furthermore, they add that there will be a deeper exploration of the Upside Down, an established alternate dimension in the show.

"Stranger Things" is set to return on Netflix in 2017. View the teaser trailer below.
