Season 12 finale of 'Grey's Anatomy' ended on a sad note for Dr. Meredith and her best friend Dr. Alex. Meredith found out that her half sister Maggie has a crush on Nathan, who she hooked up with and Alex received a no from Jo when he put forward his proposal.

Now both friends are in troubled waters and many fans feel that that they will turn to each other to share their grief. They have always been there for each other and trust reigns supreme in their bond. But is there a chance of romantic involvement as well?

According to reports, there is a good chance of romantic involvement. Many speculate that Meredith and Alex will finally come together and start a new life as a couple. Of course, at present there seems to be some scope for her and Nathan to explore their hookup, but it is also possible that she might turn her back on him. She knows her half-sister Maggie has a crush on him.

Notably, fans of Meredith and Alex have been rooting for love between the two for a long time and their number is quite big. Even producer Betsy Beers has weighed in the possibility of their romance. He said that they have something about them which makes fans feel that they are destined to be together and thus, they are rooting for it.

He stated that he was not surprised at their excitement as he thinks it is a logical place to go. However, he did not shy away from expressing familiarity with the good fan following of Alex and Jo as well. Calling the latter crazyballs, he said that they are many in number and concluded that it was nice that there was little bit of something for everybody right now.

Well, given the scenario, it is difficult to say if Meredith and Alex's friendship will bloom into a romantic relationship. But the fact that they are such good friends, love cannot be ruled out. After all, a solid friendship is, many a time, at the core of a romantic relationship.
