All the fans of Benedict Cumberbatch, who have been waiting for his famous Dr. Seuss' movie remake, will have to wait one more year.

According to reports, 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas' has been delayed remarkably and instead of November 2017, it is slated to hit the screens in November 2018. The production of Universal and Illumination is a much-anticipated remake of the 2000 movie and it was announced by the latter during the CinemaCon in April.

It was at the CinemaCon that Oscar-nominated Cumberbatch was nominated to star in the movie. Producer Chris Meledandri described the actor to be a perfect fit for the movie saying, he possesses a voice that exudes comic wickedness and also embodies vulnerability.

The remake is being directed by Pete Candeland and Yarrow Cheney. Both are well-known names with successful movies in their kitty. The former has Gorillaz to his credit while the latter is associated with 'The Secret Life of Pets.' The screenplay will be written by Michael LeSieur of 'You, Me and Dupree' fame.

It is worth mentioning here that "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" is a story by the famous children's writer Dr. Seuss and was written in 1957. It was adapted into a full-length film in 2000 and holds the distinction of being the first book of the author to be made into a movie.

The movie, starring Jim Carrey, Taylor Momsen, Jeffrey Tambor and others, was a great success, in which Jim played the titular role of the Grinch. It was directed by Ron Howard and the screenplay was written by Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman. It was hailed by critics and also sent the cash registers ringing at the box office, ruling as the number one movie in the US for four consecutive weeks.

Its worldwide box office collection stands at $345 million in gross total. What is more, the movie is ranked as a classic holiday film and holds the place of second highest grossing holiday film of all time. It also bagged the Academy Award for best makeup and received nominations for best costume design and art direction.
