Coming to PC is the unofficial downloadable sequel to the highly successful Pandemic and LucasArts' Star Wars Battlefront which will be released by Steam free of charge to Star Wars diehard fans with the title 'Galaxy in Turmoil.'

Although touted for a possible copyright-infringement takedown, 'Galaxy in Turmoil' developer Frontwire thinks that their decision stands on safe legal ground that they managed to bring game publisher Steam into the fray in title distribution.

"By Steam agreeing to ship Galaxy in Turmoil we are not only adding more validation and awareness to the project by opening up the game to a whole new audience, we're also cementing Frontwire Studios' reputation as an up and coming developer with the opportunity to now publish our games on Steam in the future," Frontwire president Tony Romanelli said as reported by MCV.

According to Polygon, 'Star Wars: Battlefront 3' had been in the works prior to Disney takeover. The game never saw the light of day and was eventually cancelled. Treading carefully to avoid the much feared cease-and-desist order, Romanelli said that, technically speaking, the game can be classified as a 'parody.' Moreover, the game will not be released for profit's sake since the game is offered as a free downloadable content.

"It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil. After ongoing discussion between Valve Representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to its millions of users for FREE," Romanelli further said in an official press statement.

Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was supposedly meant as a follow-up title to the hugely successful Star Wars: Battlefront 2 which came out in 2005. However, Free Radical developer revealed in 2012 that LucasArts ordered the project's cancellation. As for 'Galaxy in Turmoil' itself, Romanelli argued that it the parody game does not include code from recently leaked Star Wars: Battlefront 3 builds. The Battlefront assets used in the fan-made version are only utilized as placeholders. The replacement of other materials like musical scoring is underway.
