According to previous reports, "Avatar 2" was scheduled to be released in 2017. However, since "Star Wars Episode 8" is also scheduled for the same time, recent reports indicate that "Avatar 2" has been pushed back.

Based on news reports, "Avatar 2" now may come out in May 2018, instead of December 2017, as planned earlier. Even though it is only a five-month delay, the movie has been pushed back again, making the fans wait longer than they want to.

Meanwhile, other reports indicated that the second installment of the Oscar-winning movie will come out in December 2018. This has let people wondering if it is a production delay or just a way to avoid competition. From the looks of it, it seems that James Cameron doesn't want to release his movie at the same time as other big titles, such as "Star Wars."

While it is obviously disappointing to see learn that "Avatar" sequel has been delayed again, James Cameron apparently has a good reason for it. Cameron has already mentioned that they are taking on huge cinematic process. "We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process. We began to bump up against the limitations of our art form."

According to Cameron, he and his team has been working on not just "Avatar 2" but several other sequels at the same time. He also announced that the sequels of "Avatar" will be expanded into four parts. While the second installment is set for Christmas 2018 release, other parts will follow in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
