Season 22 of "Dancing with the Stars" made history when Nyle DiMarco was crowned the champion. It is the first time that a deaf person has won the Mirrorball trophy.

The historical win is being lauded by everyone but for Nyle, it is still like a dream. The model has said that he does not think the reality has hit him yet. He explained that it happened very fast but is also confident that it will hit him soon enough. He said that he feels really honored at having won the show.

Revealing the moment when he began developing the belief that he could win, the 27-year-old said that it was in week 8 that he had a hunch about becoming the King of the Ballroom. His paso doble which had silent pauses in the middle was meant to give the audience an understanding of what he experiences while dancing.

And it was after this performance that his confidence grew and he began fancying himself as a potential winner of the Mirrorball trophy. Ha said that he could feel the audience connecting with him, which was exactly what he had always yearned for. It was the motive with which he had entered the show and watching it fulfilled, assured him of victory.

However, this was not the case in the third week when he was given a hard dance to perform. Peta Murgatroyd, his dance partner, had given him the hardest routine of the season as it required him to dance blindfolded. He was very unsure and also a bit upset as it was in the early phase of the show. But when the performance fetched him first 9, he understood why Peta had given him the routine.

He also admitted to being moved when Judge Carrie learned a special sign language message to convey her admiration. Nyle is thankful for having got the chance and also cherishes the bond he formed with Peta. It made both of them learn from each other, which, according to him, was the best part.
