Everybody knows the dangers of smoking and this is the reason why parents have to be more vigilant than ever so that they can dissuade their kids from ever even trying, let alone being addicted. The teenagers today are influenced by the media so much that keeping them from smoking can be very hard. But don't worry, because there are ways to stop teens from smoking and even picking the habit.

The best way to stop the teens from trying smoking is to find the reason why they want to do it in the first place. According to the experts, looking at the smoking trends amongst teens, it is quite evident why the marketers target teens, especially the ones that are below 18.

Dr. Cora Breuner, head of the Committee on Adolescence for the American Academy of Pediatrics, says that the teenagers below the age of 18 have several nicotine receptors that make them ideal for the marketers as the target audience. The kids under 18 are lured into smoking so that their nicotine receptors die as they age. If they don't start smoking at a young age, chances are they will never smoke, which could result in poor profits for the cigarette manufacturing companies.

While the number of teen smokers, be it cigars or cigarettes, has visibly reduced, the number of kids vaping has increased significantly. Now there are a lot of teens that prefer to smoke e-cigarettes, thinking that it is much healthier. However, recent reports indicate otherwise. E-cigarettes are just as harmful as regular tobacco smoking.

For the parents to dissuade their kids from smoking, they need to be their role models and be non-smokers too. According to Breuner, the best strategy to prevent teenage smoking is to adopt no tolerance policy. The only way to dissuade them is by imposing strict restrictions.
