More than two years on from the launch of the PS4, the field of excellent gaming headsets has started to fill out - no matter what price point you're looking at.Between Sony's own headsets and the bevy of third party cans from Polk Audio, Turtle Beach, Astro, Kingston, and SteelSeries, we've spent dozens of hours weighing the options to bring you our top picks.

Sony's basic wireless headset entry. The set uses a USB dongle to link the headset and the console. While that's a bit less convenient than a Bluetooth connection, for example, it does allow you to use the set with a PC or Mac as well. The set is middle-of-the-road in every sense. The set lacks the well-defined lows and mids that tend to come with more expensive options, and comes off sounding a bit chintzy. The mic fairs a bit better with more premium options like noise cancellation, though in our tests, others would complain that we sounded a bit distant. In any case, while certainly not stellar, at $75 it's among the best budget options around.

There are two main variants for the Polk Audio Striker Pro like. The P1, intended for PS4 and PC users, and the ZX for (some) Xbox One owners. Besides that distinction, they're the same set at two slightly different price points with P1 being a bit cheaper. The big feature here is Polk's stellar mic. It's easily the best in its price range, and is a standout among the general mediocrity of integrated microphones. Besides that though, you'll get a pretty great set with great noise isolation and sturdy construction.

Turtle Beach's budget-oriented P12 is a capable contender despite its modest price point. At less than $50, it's cheaper than any other set on our list, but that doesn't mean they don't put up a fight..
