In a press release, the Wilmette Police Department announced  that Sinéad O'Connor has been found and is safe. There were no other details given in the update of May 16, 3:56 p.m. ET:

The singer had gone missing after she went out for a ride on her Raleigh bike with a pink basket early Sunday morning in the suburb of Wilmette.

She put herself in danger, as she has a history of mental illness, and may be suicidal.

"O'Connor reportedly left the Wilmette area for a bicycle ride yesterday at 6 a.m. and has not returned," the Wilmette Police Department said. "A caller expressed concern for her well-being and no other information is available at this time."

Over the years, she has made a number of attempts to commit suicide, including in 1999 when she turned 33. It was followed by another attempt in 2012 and again last fall as two of her ex-boyfriends were locked in custody battles over her two youngest sons.

She cancelled a tour last summer as she was "suffering from exhaustion due to an existing not resolved medical situation."

Earlier this month the Irish musician said that Prince, who wrote her biggest hit, "Nothing Compares 2 U" - "got his drugs over the decades" from comedian Arsenio Hall.

To that, Hall filed a $5 million defamation lawsuit against her in which he said she's a "desperate, attention-seeker" who is "now known perhaps as much for her bizarre, unhinged Internet rants as for her music."

Sinead O'Connor also posted a message  at 9:12 a.m. directed at her oldest son: "Jake, kindly go to the court on Tuesday and take custody of your brother from Tusla. My lawyer will be making the illegal way yourself and Donal got him into Tusla (lying to the cops etc) known to the judge. expect to be in trouble. In fact, you'd best bring a lawyer of your own. And do not abandon your brother or any other of my babies again. What you have done to your brother and your mother is LITERALLY criminal." (Sinéad O'Connor May 15 Facebook Post)
