If you've not known or are living under a rock, WhatsApp for Web was the service that was incepted last year in January and now has finally received the option to send and receive documents on your desktop/laptops. The move comes a couple of days after the company brought out their standalone application for the same hardware. Just few months ago, now Facebook-owned WhatsApp added the document-sharing feature to its mobile app.

The feature currently only supports a limited number formats eligible to be shared. With the new document sharing feature in WhatsApp for Web, the company now lets users send word files, PDFs and more formats which aren't used by common public yet. The option is visible as a part of the attachment icon on the top right corner of the chat window. To use the feature, both the Android and iOS WhatsApp apps are needed to be updated to the latest version.

Earlier this week WhatsApp introduced its desktop application that mirrors conversations and messages from the connected mobile device. The app can be downloaded on their respective application stores for instance App store for iOs devices and Windows store for Desktop PCs running Microsoft Windows. Just like WhatsApp Web, the new desktop app also works on the same principle like how it functioned on a browser where "it lets you message with friends and family while your phone stays in your pocket" said the company in its blog post.

This is certain now that with more features rolling out to WhatsApp for Web, the amount of users actually opting for the application based environment at least for now might be limited. We are also expected to see as to how many people can make use of the standalone app that Facebook now wants you to make use of, since the standalone versions are better but the only thing bothering users are privacy concerns. The company last month also rolled out end-to-end encryption feature to chats.
