Instagram is bringing a special holiday gift to its users by adding five new filters to give a new feel to still photographs.

Holiday season is the best time of the year and there are a lot of memories to preserve. To help you with that, Instagram has released five new filters that give a unique look to your still photographs. This is an important addition to the app as it is the first time in the last two years that Instagram has updated its filter collection.

The new filters, in Instagram's same old fashion, get unique names. They are Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. Each filter is unique and brings new effects to still photos. For instance, Slumber adds haze and brings a retro dreamy look; Crema brings a warm and cool effect to the image, Ludwig enhances light and gives a minimalist look; Perpetua gives blue/green natural look and finally Aden brings a muted look and most suitable for portrait shots, according to CNET.

"They soften and subtly shift colors to achieve the look and feel you want for your each photo," Instagram said.

The latest update is not just about the new filters. Instagram also added a new perspective tool to adjust horizontal and vertical planes of an image as well as the option to upload slow-mo videos, which is a standard in almost every high-end smartphone. The comments will automatically load in real time without users refreshing the comments section every time.

Finally, Instagram is allowing users to manage their filters. The new "Manage" option allows users to put their favorite filters at the front and push the rarely used ones to last. You could even hide filters if you are certain of not using them.

Instagram is currently on its road to success. The image-sharing site recently announced it reached 300 million users on its platform, putting behind the popular social site, Twitter.

In order to bring photos to life, Facebook is also directly offering an option to auto-enhance the images just before sharing.

Instagram is available in iTunes and Google Play Store as a free download.
