If there is one club in English football who can rival the two Spanish giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona, in terms of transfer fees then it is Manchester United and in the summer transfer window of 2016, the club are going to go all out to acquire the right players that will allow them to play the sort of dazzling football that they were known for. In that light, United are now currently intent on acquiring Columbian star James Rodriguez from Real Madrid in the summer so that the team's forward line is galvanised with that bit of world class quality that it has missed for the better part of the last two seasons. However, at the same time, it is necessary to point out that the task of bringing Rodriguez to Old Trafford would not come cheap since Real Madrid are set to demand something around £60 million for the player, who was bought by the Spanish club for a similar amoung back in 2014 after he set the World Cup alight with his skills.

Manchester United recently became the first club in the history of football to have recorded a revenue of £500 million in annual revenues and with the huge influx of television money that is going to roll in from the 2016-17 season, the club wold not find it difficult to fund the transfer that could break the record for the highest transfer fee in British football. It is interesting to note that the 2015-16 season has been a forgettable one for Rodriguez as he found it difficult to replicate his form from last season and frequently found himself out of the starting eleven under Rafael Benitez and later on under Zinedine Zidane.

In addition to that, some injuries and niggles did not help matter as his time at Real Madrid became a bit of a nightmare with the lack of game time. According to most reports, the player is keen on a change of scenery and would certainly welcome a move to Old Trafford, however it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid actually want to part with the star who joined their squad only two years ago.
