All the Supergirl fans, here is some good news. The action-adventure television series featuring the female superhero has been officially renewed for the second season.

However, it has moved on from CBS to the CW. Warner Bros. made an announcement about the renewal and also revealed that the show will be filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. The decision to shift the shooting location from Los Angeles has been taken in a bid to cut the production costs.

The studio had been looking for cost-cutting measures before renewing the series for its second season and this is how they propose to go about it. It may be noted here that Supergirl was ranked by The Hollywood Reporter as CBS' most expensive show till date.

As for the cast, Melissa Benoist will reprise her titular role in the next season. She will begin shooting in Vancouver where other comic programs of CW like "Arrow" and "The Flash" are shot. However, her co-star Calista Flockhart has expressed her reservations about the new shooting location. She was rigid about filming in Los Angeles, but gave in and will continue on the show.

This decision by CBS has been taken not just because of the high cost involved in production but also because the ratings of the show failed to justify the cost. It is another thing that the show was ranked first as the new CBS drama and bagged fourth position in the best overall series category, targeted at 18-49 age group.

If one takes CW's standards into account, Supergirl is definitely an out and out hit. No wonder, they decided to produce it. The show appeals to youngsters and also serves the cause of women empowerment, which was something very close to the heart of Nina Tassler, former president of CBS.

Ali Addler, producer of Supergirl has said that he was confident of the show getting a renewal and added that season 2 will be more reflective of the past and also focus on changing the future. The series is slated for 2016-2017 broadcast and once it starts airing, it will become CW's fourth DC comics show.
