Owners of Nest thermostats will be able to monitor and control their thermostat from the Chrome browser or by using Google's app on Android and iOS devices. The latest update will let Google Now accept commands such as "OK Google, change temperature to", "set Nest to", "turn the thermostat to" and other followed by a temperature.

On the outset, Google will need the permission to access your Nest, which you can do from here. Once the permission is granted, you can change the temperature right from your phone, tablet or computer.

Google Now has also been integrated with Nest cards that will let you know whenever the thermostat is making an adjustment.

Apart from just voice control, Google app will also track your phone's location to automatically start heating up or cooling down your house.

Nest is not the first thermostat that has integrated voice controls. Last year Honeywell had released a model that could adjust with voice commands, however only basic adjustments could be done.

It will be interesting to see how Apple flips the switch on HomeKit and hands the keys to its virtual assistant Siri. Giving a glimpse of how HomeKit-enabled devices would work, Apple senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi said in a conference: "With Siri integration, you can say something like, 'get ready for bed,' and be sure your garage door is closed, your door is locked, the thermostat is lowered and your lights are dimmed."
