Manchester United is a club which has been in turmoil for the past 6 months or so due to poor shows across all fronts under the guidance of Dutchman Louis van Gaal and although it is true that injuries have played their part in the whole thing, it cannot be denied the squad has also lacked strength in depth at many times this season. Needless to say, the club are all set to flex their considerable financial muscle this summer and acquire players for as many position as it is required. United have now identified West Ham United's 17 year old central defender Reece Oxford as a possible solution to their woes in terms of the depth in the central defensive stocks in the club. Additionally, the player can also play in midfield if needed and has in fact impressed in that role whenever he has been called upon to do a job by West Ham at different points this season.

One of the bigger problem areas for the club has been at the back and due to the injuries and lack of depth, midfielder Daley Blind had to play at the position for large portions of the season, with mixed results. Chirs Smalling needs a stabled defensive partner and although it is true that United are in the market for a top class centre back, they want to make sure that their stocks do not suddenly appear bare if and when their first choice options are unavailable.

Reece Oxford has attracted interest from some of the top clubs in the English Premier League and in fact Arsenal were rumoured to have been interested in a £10 million move. However it seems United are now his most likely destination and the club have in fact sent scouts to have a look at him at various games throughout the season. Considering the history of the club at developing young players, this is a move that could well happen.
