Apple has recently unveiled its ultra-thin 12-inch Retina MacBook which offers a lot of opportunities for tech buffs and critics to review on the Silicon Valley giant's latest laptop flagship.

As reported in a number of critical reviews by tech analysts, the new MacBook looks incredibly slim with a design that resembled the 2015 model but with more kick and punch in its processing power. The 2016 model is armed with Skylake processor coupled with enhanced graphics, a faster SSD, and increased longevity of its battery. On the outside, the new laptop also comes with a Rose Gold color variant. Missing features, however, included Thunderbolt 3, more USB Type-C ports, and a much improved FaceTime camera.

So the tech giant seems to have nailed its claims of enhanced graphics, extra hours of battery life, and improved processing speed. As reported by Engadget, the 1.3GHz 512GB Retina MacBook's SSD achieved a Wollman reading speed of 947MB/s and writing speed of 845MB/s- a significant improvement from its predecessor.

In terms of drawbacks, the new MacBook may not sit well with users who are not fond of the device's precursor based on single USB Type-C port, ARS Technica reported. On the contrary, interested users are more likely to be induced by its speed which is the main reason why some buyers decided to forego buying the 2015 model until the 2016 arrives.

In many respects, the Retina MacBook offers a number of enhancements that makes it a better buy than its predecessor. While the Cupertino-based company tries to outsmart its rivals in the 'ultrathin laptop' war, the device remains riddled with some compromises.

The port availability is clearly a big downside as well as its low-resolution FaceTime camera compared to Samsung's superior camera technology. But overall, the MacBook remains the most reasonable option for laptop users who prefer an extremely portable Core m5 computing device with an hour longer on battery charge according to a report by Yibada.

For a starting price of $1, 299 on the company's website, the latest device in Apple's MacBook series can be yours.
