As leaks emerge from Pokémon GO testers in Japan and Australia, others wonder what happened to the GO Plus device that was unveiled last year.

The device is not part of the tests and fans awaiting the game's launch are wondering if it is worth purchasing. Given that Niantic has not said much about the device, Pokémon loyalists speculate if the device will improve the experience or lead to wastage of balls.

"The function of the device is so vague. It almost feels like they thought up the device itself before they designed the game, and now they have to figure out how to actually make it work with the game as it is," said one Reddit user.

"In particular, if we have to buy/have a limited number of pokeballs, I probably want to know what pokemon I'm throwing balls at, and not just press a button to waste a ball whenever an led flashes at me, meaning I probably want to pull out my phone and use that instead anyway."

The wearable device alerts the wearer when a Pokémon is around. Users wonder if it would be possible for them to list the Pokémon they are interested in and get alerted accordingly.

"A portable device called the Pokémon GO Plus will enable Pokémon GO players to enjoy the game even while they're not looking at their smartphones. The device connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth and notifies the player about events in the game-such as the appearance of a Pokémon nearby-using an LED and vibration," the device description reads on the game's website. A button on the wearable performs an action. Pokémon GO was announced last September at an event attended by representatives of Niantic and Nintendo. A prototype of Pokémon GO Plus was also revealed.

Besides asking for more news about the device, fans of the game have also speculated if mega-evolution in the game would be possible only with Pokémon GO Plus. It must be noted that Niantic, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have not said anything about the device.
